Rob Underwood brings to FINOS two decades of experience leading high profile marketing, technology, and strategy initiatives, both for profits and nonprofits, across a diversity of organizational sizes and types, from Fortune 100 technology companies, to educational foundations, to ten person venture backed startups. 


At FINOS Rob serves as Chief Development Officer, where he leads various aspects of foundation development. Rob’s duties include new business development (membership sales); project development (identifying and attracting new project contributions; identifying new potential projects to launch from scratch based on market opportunities); drawing on his experience as CTO of Relay Graduate School of Education, organizational development (training and certification strategy for the FINOS project community); and, building on the channel strategy and route-to-market projects he led for technology and financial data companies when he was with Deloitte Consulting, partnership and alliance development for FINOS, including the new Associate Membership tier for other nonprofits. Rob also oversees strategic and special projects for the foundation, such as the recent pilot and onboarding of the Legend platform from FINOS member Goldman Sachs. Rob is additionally responsible for FINOS public relations.  


Rob enjoys continuing to write code and is a big believer in the utility of statically typed functional languages, especially for financial services companies. Rob is also an advocate for expanding K-12 computer science education and has been active in the effort to expand CS in both NYC and across the United States such as CSForAll. Rob is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
